I caught the train to Glasgow and spent most of the morning wandering round the gallery of modern art. This was an interesting diversion. The special exhibition was called “Every Day” and consisted of sculptured objects resembling familiar and common events, objects and places but made into something new, bold and different. In reflection, I realise that this was perhaps an apt reflection on my long walk. I had trekked through many areas of England and Scotland that I had seen before but I was now able to view in a less familiar way as a walker through the landscapes unfolding before me each day.
I caught the airport bus and met my husband in the airport café. He had decided to remain at the airport for the afternoon, in order to avoid any stress over missing the plane back home. Fortunately he enjoys flying and journeys so he had no objection to travelling to Glasgow with my large rucksack and camping equipment and travelling back home with a smaller rucksack and items that I no longer needed.
Luckily I realised that what I had planned to carry on my next stage when I had sorted out my bags almost two months earlier was too much, so he also took back home some of the things he had brought up to Glasgow.
We spent the afternoon catching up on two months of news before he had to go back through security for the flight home and I returned to Milngavie by bus and train.
Not withstanding my decision to jettison some items, my rucksack was very full and very heavy. However everything that I had left in my hotel room at Milngavie and the things that I had collected from the airport did fit and I could carry it.
